The term unit process. In our book, the term unit process is defined in a slightly different manner from the standard one. According to ILCD Handbook General Guide for Life Cycle Assessment-Provisions and action steps, published by Joint Research Center of European Commission, 2010, the standard definition of a unit process is
"Smallest element considered in the life cycle inventory analysis for which input and output data are quantified (Source 14040). In practice of LCA, both physically not further separable processes (such as unit operations in production plants) and also whole production sites are covered under "unit process"."A
